The format of the Typepad weblog engine/hosting service doesn't really allow for a two-person blog, but that's what this is. When you see "email me" or "about me" just think "email US" or "about US."
So who are we?
We are Crankyneighbors.com, a political and current affairs blog designed to showcase the scintillating wit and trenchant analysis of Tom Champion and Joe Thompson, who really are neighbors in the Prospect Hill section of Somerville, Massachusetts.
Tom is an old-fashioned, mainstream, New Deal liberal with broadly tolerant social values. With a long history of partisan electoral and governmental activity, he tries to be temperate and humorous in his approach to polemical writing -- but he's a big-D Democrat through and through. He currently serves as communications director for the City of Somerville, which means he confines himself to writing about national (and, very occasionally, state) politics. He can be reached at tchamp@rcn.com.
Joe is an independent, iconoclastic thinker who regards Republicans, Democrats, the rich, the poor, and all sloppy thinkers (roughly 90 percent of the population) with equal degrees of contempt, disdain and amusement. He believes that anything worth saying is going to offend somebody, so get used to it. In fact, learn to enjoy it. Joe owns and operates Boston-based Fi-Dough, the pet bakery where dogs and the people they own can get fresh baked biscuits, gift baskets, all natural foods, toys and accessories.
